The woman is Mona Sax. She was an assassin. Max fell in love with her and even got to fuck her, though she was a pretty traitorous skank. She appeared to die in the first game, and again in the second, though if you beat it on hardest difficulty she survived. Presumably dead for real for number 3 though.
